Cookham Easy Going Route

An easy going route around Cookham Village and along parts of the Thames Path National Trail. The majority of the route is flat and the surface is mainly grass or tarmac. At various points on the path there are RADAR key operated gates.

Cuttlebrook Nature Reserve

Cuttlebrook Nature Reserve is just a few minutes from the centre of Thame and provides easy access to a semi-wild area. The Cuttlebrook is a tributary of the River Thames and flows through the water meadows that are part of the nature reserve.

There is a wheelchair and pushchair accessible walk which is about 0.5 mile long.

Take a walk along the canal, river and lakes around Rickmansworth. This 3 or 4 mile walk (depending on whether you take an extension around Bury Lake), starts off in Rickmansworth and takes you along part of the Ebury Way, past Batchworth Lock and along the canal. Just before finishing at the edge of Bury Lake you can extend your walk around the lake and see what is going on at the Aquadrome.

River Ver, St Albans

This walk along the River Ver in St Albans is part of the BBC Walk Through Time series. The walk allows you to explore not only the flora and fauna but also the chalk and flint geology that has shaped St Albans, including the cathedral.

The walk is about 2 miles long on mainly man made surfaces. There is an extension to the walk along the River Ver and this may not be suitable for buggies and wheelchairs.

Rhodedendron in Oxhey Woods by Matt From London

The many old trees on the South Oxhey estate were here long before the houses. The trees date from the time the area was part of the Oxhey Place estate, which was once owned by the abbot and monks of St. Albans and later by the Blackwell family (famour for their pickles).

The walk is 2.5 miles long, takes about 1.5 hours and passes through South Oxhey, Oxhey Woods and the surrounding parkland. Some of the areas of the walk are less accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs, especially in poor weather. These sections are marked on the map.

Winding paths take you past the paddling pool, through interesting woodland and by the River Gade. The Grand Union Canal also makes its way through the park, so you can jog along the towpath. Plenty of parking spaces in and around Cassiobury Park mean that even if you don’t live too close, you can still enjoy the facilities it has to offer.

Stewartby – Millbrook Leisure Rail Walk

There are many opportunities for enjoyable walks from stations on the Bedford to Bletchley rail line. The walks associated with this leaflet (there are four: Fenny Stratford Circular Walk, Stewartby to Millbrook walk via Stewartby Lake, Bow Brickhill Circular Walk, Ridgmont 'Clay Way' Circular Walk) are suggestions, suitable for most ages, but not advisable with pushchairs. The length of the walks is generally between 1 and 2 hours, depending on stops made at places of interest. These walks all begin and end at stations on the Marston Vale rail line.
